Non - emission line young stars of intermediate mass 3
نویسنده
چکیده
We present optical spectra of four intermediate mass candidate young stellar objects that have often been classified as Herbig Ae/Be stars. Typical Herbig Ae/Be emission features are not present in the spectra of these stars. Three of them, HD 36917, HD 36982 and HD 37062 are members of the young Orion Nebula Cluster (ONC). This association constrains their ages to be ≤ 1 Myr. The lack of appreciable near infrared excess in them suggests the absence of hot dust close to the central star. But they do possess significant amounts of cold and extended dust component as revealed by the large excess emission observed at far infrared wavelengths. Fractional infrared luminosity (Lir/L⋆) and the dust masses computed from IRAS fluxes are systematically lower than that found for Herbig Ae/Be stars but higher than those for Vega-like stars. These stars may then represent the youngest examples of Vega phenomenon known so far. In contrast, the other star in our sample, HD 58647, is more likely to be a classical Be star as evident from the low Lir/L⋆, scarcity of circumstellar dust, low polarization, presence of Hα emission and near infrared excess and far infrared spectral energy distribution consistent with free-free emission similar to other well known classical Be stars.

Evolution of emission line activity in intermediate mass young stars
We present optical spectra of 45 intermediate mass Herbig Ae/Be stars. Together with the multi-epoch spectroscopic and photometric data compiled for a large sample of these stars and ages estimated for individual stars by using pre-main sequence evolutionary tracks, we have studied the evolution of emission line activity in them. We find that, on average, the Hα emission line strength decreases...
متن کاملPre - main - sequence stars in the young open cluster NGC 1893 , ⋆ II . Evidence for triggered massive star formation
Received ABSTRACT Context. The open cluster NGC 1893, illuminating the H region IC 410, contains a moderately large population of O-type stars and is one of the youngest clusters observable in the optical range. It is suspected to harbour a large population of pre-main-sequence (PMS) stars. Aims. We have probed the stellar population of NGC 1893 in an attempt to determine its size and extent...
متن کاملWind diagnostics and correlations with the near-infrared excess in Herbig Ae/Be stars
Intermediate dispersion spectroscopic observations of 37 Herbig Ae/Be stars reveal that the equivalent widths of their [OI]λ6300 andHα emission lines, are related to their nearinfrared colours in the same fashion as the T-Tauri stars. Such a correlation strongly supports the idea that the winds from Herbig Ae/Be stars arise in the same manner as those from TTauri stars, i.e. through accretion d...
متن کاملKinematic Diagnostics of Disks Around Young Stars : CO Overtone Emission from WL 16 & 1548 C 27
We report high spectral resolution observations of the CO vibrational overtone emission from the young stellar object 1548C27; our observations include both the v=2-0 and v=5-3 bandhead regions. These data and similar observations of the young stellar object WL16, reported in a previous contribution to this journal (Letters), provide some of the most compelling evidence to date for the existenc...
متن کاملChandra Observations of a Young Embedded Magnetic B Star in the ρ Ophiuchus Cloud
This paper reports on an analysis of two Chandra X-ray observations of the young magnetic B star ρ Ophiuchus S1. X-ray emission from the star was detected in both observations. The average flux was almost the same in both, but during each observation the flux showed significant time variations by a factor of two on timescales of 20–40 ks. Each spectrum could be fit by either an absorbed power-l...
